How to choose the right racking system
01Type of goods
Pallets go on pallet racking, Drive-In or Cash&Carry. Boxes, parts and archives belong on shelf-type racking, while pipes, profiles, timber and panels go on cantilever racking, which has no front posts to block loading.
02Density or selective access
Selective racking gives direct access to every pallet, with full FIFO. Drive-In holds up to 80–85% more on the same floor area, but it suits homogeneous or slow-moving goods, including cold stores: LIFO logic, or FIFO with access from both ends (Drive-Through). Lane depth is 3–10+ pallets.
03Hall height and equipment
Pallet racking works in halls with 4 to 12+ m of clear height, with a counterbalance truck, reach truck or order picker. Cash&Carry needs at least 5–6 m and an aisle of at least 3.5 m, and Drive-In needs a standard counterbalance truck (outer aisle ~3.5 m). Choose the equipment together with the racking: see electric forklifts and reach trucks.
04Extra floor area
If the hall has height but no floor space left, a mezzanine creates a technical floor for storage, picking or offices, rated at 300–1,000+ kg/m², with no new foundations and no building extension. Installation takes 5–15 working days, without interrupting activity in the hall.

How much does an industrial racking system cost in Moldova?

Racking systems are configured per project and have no fixed price: the cost depends on the hall dimensions, the number of levels, the load per level and the type of system — for cantilever racking, for example, the price is calculated individually for each project. Selective racking or Drive-In?

Selective, if you need to take out any pallet without moving others — direct access and full FIFO. Drive-In, if you store large batches of the same goods, or slow-moving goods, on a small floor area: the forklift drives into the rack lane, and up to 80–85% more pallets fit on the same floor area than with selective racking. Drive-In works on LIFO logic; with access from both ends (Drive-Through) it becomes FIFO.
What is the difference between industrial racking and metal shelving?

They are different categories. The systems on this page are designed around the space, the load and the equipment, for pallets, long materials or technical floors. Light metal shelving and Profi Lux, for a small warehouse, garage, archive or workshop, are in Metal Shelving, and shelves for displaying goods in a shop are in Retail Shelving.
What hall height is required?

Pallet racking works in halls from 4 to 12+ m of clear height. Cash&Carry needs at least 5–6 m of clear height and an aisle of at least 3.5 m, and for Drive-In the outer aisle is ~3.5 m. If the hall has height but little floor space, a mezzanine platform adds a floor.
Do you install the racking?
